We all have insecurities that we battle on a daily basis. If I’m not careful, I can find myself spending an hour on Facebook and then determining that not only have I neglected time with my kids, I now know that I am not cooking as healthy as my friends. I’m also not wearing the right clothes, and I’m not exercising enough. By the end of the day, I feel defeated and beaten down because I am so insecure.
All of these insecurities that you have about yourself are lies. John 10:10 tells us that the thief comes only to kill and destroy us. Satan preys on our weakness and magnifies it to a level where we start to question if it is truth. After we dwell on this insecurity for so long, we accept it as part of us. Let me tell you this – God is truth. John 14:6 declares that He is the way, the truth, AND the life! Satan will move on every opportunity to attack us but as you can see, God has given us scripture to fight these lies.
The true way I have found to fight the lies that I battle is to look them up in scripture and pray those verses. I’ll give you some examples.
- I struggle to believe that I am good enough. At the end of the day, I find myself second guessing if I could have done better. The scripture tells me in Proverbs 31:29, “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”
- I also tend to believe I’m not working hard enough if I’m not extremely busy. Once I am so overbooked, I find myself beyond exhausted, weak, and crying. Psalms 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
- Frustration kicks in when life does not go according to my to-do list. Isaiah 55:8 says, “My thoughts are not your thoughts and neither are my ways your ways.”
Once we have scripture buried in our hearts, we can start relaxing, breathing life, and believing the truth about who God says we are. We are chosen (John 15:16), we are given grace (2 Corinthians 12:9), and we are sons and daughters in Christ (2 Corinthians 6:18).
I encourage you to set aside at least 20 minutes today to reflect on this. Make a list of the lies that you are fed everyday. What do you battle? Once you have that list made, begin looking up scripture. What does God say? Keep these scriptures with you and reference them. Pray over them.
I’ll get you started with this truth found in 1 John 3:1a, “See what kind of love God has given to us, that we should be called the children of God; and so we are.”
